Buildings, Boats and Places with Character

Architectural sketches, maritime illustrations and limited-edition prints by Brian Freelander.

From familiar streets to quiet quaysides, my work captures the character of a place through expressive linework and carefully chosen washes of colour. There’s detail where it matters, with room for a little imagination.

A lifetime of drawing—and still exploring

Brian Freelander, an architectural illustrator elected as a Fellow of the Society of Architectural Illustrators, in 1983.

After a career spent illustrating buildings, I still enjoy discovering what a few lines and a splash of colour can bring to life. Architecture remains at the heart of my work, alongside boats, waterfronts and the places that catch my eye around Poole and further afield.

For me, a good sketch should do more than describe a scene. It should give you a feeling for being there. by hand in graphite pencil, ensuring archival permanence for private collectors and architectural interiors.
